Enet: FTTB Design and Build
Overview:
enet is Ireland’s largest, open access network provider, delivering wholesale fixed and wireless services nationally. enet operates fibre metro networks and a fibre backhaul network, as well as licensed wireless infrastructure. In addition, Entegro has a long-term relationship with enet, having provided design and build services to them since 2010.
Notably, Entegro was engaged to design and build FTTB networks in four metro locations - Claremorris, Loughrea, Ardee and Kilkenny.
Challenge:
- To provide the client with a cost-effective design and build solution,
- To bring fibre connectivity into business premises within the chosen towns.
Solution:
Working closely with the client, Entegro defined the PON architecture, which included product procurement and testing. A survey was completed and the HLD (High Level Design) and LLD (Low Level Design) for the full end-to-end PON solution were undertaken using - where possible – pre-existing metro infrastructure, to reduce the costs involved in a new build.
Entegro installed and commissioned the PON equipment and assisted in customer turn up and test.
Result:
Entegro delivered a complete turnkey solution for the design and build of an FTTB network in the four towns. This enabled the client to validate the cost of connection, understand better their customer requirements and develop a successful operating model.
“Entegro provided a complete turnkey solution, from initial concept through to design, build, test and handover. Their expertise in fibre networks was essential to the delivery of this project on time and within budget.”
